Respecting the environment is an important part of our commitment to sustainable development.
Wesco is ISO 14001 certified and therefore is committed to continuous improvement according to the principles defined in their environmental policy.
As part of this, we are implementing new actions on a daily basis to reduce our impact on the environment.
Environmentally friendly products
From the product design stage, we try to limit the impact they could have on the environment. We are progressively increasing the use of the Life Cycle Analysis of our products. This analysis allows us to measure the impact of our design options and to then make the most sustainable choices.
Choose raw materials well
Wesco offers a very large range of wooden furniture and games. For all these items, we choose the wood carefully depending on its origin and refuse to use wood from trees which have been cut down illegally or from old-growth forests. For several years now, we have been intensifying the selection and manufacture of products made from wood coming from eco-managed forests or bamboo.
We also choose as a priority water-soluble paint, recycled and/or recyclable materials.
Think about the future of the product
We design products which can be taken apart so that each part can be recycled.
Consider the product AND the packaging
It is not only the product which can have an impact on the environment, the packaging also can. We consider the packaging before manufacturing our products, so as to use the minimum amount and therefore limit the impact of transport.
Make our suppliers aware
Even when products are not made directly by Wesco, we continue to expand our selection of eco-designed products.
We ask our suppliers to give priority to eco-design, the use of recycled and recyclable materials, to streamline their logistics, and encourage them to commit to sustainable development.
Reduce paper and cardboard consumption
Mail order involves high paper consumption. Since 2005, Wesco has been reducing the format and basis weight of their catalogues, thereby reducing their paper consumption by 10%.
On the other hand, Wesco makes sure the paper used is made from wood which comes from forests managed according to sustainable development principles.
In the warehouses, a packaging chain, specially designed to adapt the size of packaging to the content has enabled us to reduce packaging consumption and only use what is strictly necessary.
Our packaging allows us to optimize the transport as our packages are smaller: less transport - and so less lorries - contributes to reducing the pollution caused by their use.
We encourage our customers to place orders on our website to limit paper consumption caused by orders placed by fax or mail.
Control the consumption of energy and drinking water
In the field of transport as a priority, which is the main element in home shopping, we reduce pollution by decreasing the size of our packages and limiting sending packages several times following customer complaints.
We also manage transport in a globalised manner in order to optimise the flow and therefore reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
On our premises, we have informed our collaborators so that they consume less water and turn off lights and computers when they are not in use. A carpool system also encourages them to use their vehicles in a more intelligent way.
The use of a rainwater recovery tank means we no longer have to use drinking water to clean our premises.
Reduce and make use of waste
Wesco respects European regulation in terms of household packaging waste.
Regarding waste management on our premises, the Wesco group gets all collaborators involved by implementing these simple and concrete rules:
- an efficient waste separation and waste enhancement system allows us to recycle over 80% of our waste
- it is standard use to print on both sides,
- the distribution of cups allows us to stop the excessive consumption of plastic cups,
- we favour recyclable products, biological cleaning products, etc…
We also work on reducing waste at the source, in particular by preventing the production of waste in any form, on our site or that of our customer.
Wesco donates the products customers send back to us to associations if they cannot be put back into stock.
